It’s coming!! Now it’s over……

Have you ever been excited about something? You look forward to a certain event in your life and then all of a sudden the day comes and it’s here! So much excitement and anticipation in your life, but then, just like that it’s over and all you have are the memories.  Memories are great, but now what do you have to look forward to? Here is my example of what I’m talking about.

My favorite band is a rock and roll band from South Carolina called Needtobreathe.  I love their music and I love the passion and soul they have that is captured in their recordings.  My wife and I had tickets to see Needtobreathe in Birmingham, Alabama back in 2010.  It was the spring time and we all know, spring time in the south is the time for bad weather.  I remember the day well.  I knew it was supposed to be bad weather that day so I woke up watching the weather channel from 7:00 up until the time we were supposed to leave.  Long story short, the weather was horrible that day and Needtobreathe cancelled the show for that night and rescheduled for the next night.  My wife and I couldn’t make it the next night and the excitement and joy of seeing Needtobreathe came crashing down.  For the next five years every time they came somewhere close, we always had prior engagements and couldn’t make the trip.

Fast forward to last night (April 23rd, 2015) My wife and I were finally able to see Needtobreathe live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  As soon as I heard they were coming I purchased the tickets and have been excited like a small child at Christmas ever since.  Leading up to the show I would get more and more excited and ready to see the band.  I was looking forward to this for quite some time.  We were able to see the band, sing along, I danced a little (ok, maybe a lot) and I nodded my head to the beat.  It was amazing!! Old songs were done a bit differently, the new stuff was fresh and played well, the passion was there and the place was packed.  I left the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater extremely pleased.  It was everything I thought it would be.  It was a great night.

Now what? What do I have to look forward to now? I’m not seeing Needtobreathe tonight in Arkansas.  I’m not going to see any bands tonight, I don’t have a major event in life planned, so what is there to look forward to? The Needtobreathe show has come and gone, now I’m just sitting here looking at pictures from the show and thinking about the smells I smelled, the sounds I heard and the overall great time I had.  All of the anticipation has come and gone. Maybe some of you are connecting with me right now.  We look forward to many things that happen in our lives, but then they are over.

This is my point.  This is life, we get excited, and then it’s over, and although great events happen in our lives they come to an end then we have to find something else to get excited about.  I started thinking about Jesus and the inheritance we have as Christians.  We can look forward to a life spent with Jesus in Heaven when we leave this earth.  The great part about this is that it won’t be a one night thing, or a weekend event where we hang out with Jesus sing songs and worship the King and then go home.  This will be an eternal thing we do daily.  We will be in the presence of our Savior! We can look forward to this, it will be an amazing time of worship to the One who gave His life for us.

So what about now? Even now, we can enjoy Jesus and the things He does for us, the blessings he gives us everyday.  We can bask in His presence daily and live an abundant life here on earth.  Every day is a new day and the Bible says His mercies are new every morning.  Each day we can look forward to living a life in Christ, and that will never run out, it will never end, and even when we leave this earth, we find ourselves in the presence of the Risen King.

So while things come and go, there is one thing that stays the same and is constant in our lives and that is Jesus.  Find excitement and satisfaction in Him everyday, not just once a week or once a month.  Daily rest in Jesus and passionately follow Him.  He loves us and that is something to get excited about, and stay excited.

In Christ,

Steven
